A lot of the time on social media you will hear that you need to do this or that when you start building your business online from scratch. Too many people, too many opinions, too much advice, but how do you know what works and what does not?
Today I want to share with you the main mistakes most entrepreneurs do when they create their online programs or courses. These mistakes will help you to save money and understand what you should avoid in order to get your first sales.
Mistake #1: Not communicating with your audience
Before you start working on your signature program or online course ask your audience what they want to learn about. What struggles do they have and what holds them back from achieving results they seak.
Here’re the tools you can use to communicate with your audience:
✓ Surveymonkey.com to upload your questions. It is a free service
✓ Social media platforms that allow you to share your survey.
I prefer to use social media my audience is spending time on. For example, if you use Facebook to run your business and you know your ideal clients are chilling on Facebook too, I would promote organically or using Facebook ads to position my survey in front of my ideal clients. When I just started my coaching business online, I have joined Facebook groups where my ideal clients were and asked them to participate in my survey. To motivate them to take actions I created a unique freebie and was giving away to those who helped me out with the survey. It worked great!
✓ Get up to 10 responses. Get more if you can
✓ Summarize the main blocks that hold back your ideal clients. Top main struggles they cannot overcome on their own
✓ After you got the top three main topics your clients need help with, do a second survey in Facebook groups and see what the #1 topic of those 3, your ideal clients need help the most. Personally, I prefer to create a poll in Facebook groups to figure out the winning topic
Now, you have all the information you need to start putting together your paid offer
Example of a survey I did use that exact strategy: www.SurveyMonkey.com/r/
Mistake #2: Selling without warming up your audience
When you’re working on your training you have to start building a know, like and trust factor with your audience. Main mistakes I see entrepreneurs and online coaches do is that they create their product first and then start launching it. Well, a know, like, and trust factor doesn’t happen over the night. It takes time and effort. To avoid this mistake you need to build a trustful relationship with your followers by showing up consistently and deliver great content. We call it “Pre-Launching”. Depends on the price of your paid offer, your pre-launching strategy should be at least for 4 weeks
Use this strategy to Pre-Launch your paid offer or service:
✓ Download CalendarsThatWork.com and map up your visibility plan for 4 weeks ahead.
When you’re going to show up. What content you’re going to share. What “call to action” will you have in order to prepare your audience to buy from you in the future. For example, if I’m about to introduce my new paid offer, all my “free” content must be related to the offer. I would map up my visibility calendar for weeks ahead and show up in front of my audience to warming up them before I introduce my offer
✓ Start growing your list.
Your audience needs to see you in the multiple places to build know, like and trust factor faster. In your email funnel focus on delivering the value but at the same time remind them that they have problems and struggles that they cannot solve on their own. Repurpose your content and tease them about your upcoming offer.
Mistake #3: Not strategic with your launching
The biggest mistake I see entrepreneurs make is that they introduce their paid offer a few times and then stop doing the work before they reach their income goals. It took you 4 weeks to deliver the value to your audience. By now, your followers see you as an expert in your niche. Now, it’s time to be persistent with your launching strategy and start making a profit. For the next 2-3 weeks, you need to focus on position your paid offer as a solution to the problems of your ideal clients.
In the pre-launching phase, your call to action was focusing on growing your followers and your list. “Join my list for more support from me”, “follow me on social media if you don’t want to miss another great piece of the content from me”
In the launching phase, your call to action would be focusing on “buy from me”. Every content that you share in the launching phase has to focus on pushing your sells. Use webinars, challenges, video series, email funnels to deliver your value and sell at the end!
Do you remember, before we create your paid offer we did a research and figure out the three top struggles your audience needs help with? We chosed one topic (struggles) and created your offer around it. Now, take another two struggles (topics) and create mini bonuses that solve those struggles. Add it to your paid offer. Your potential clients won’t walk away from it.
